The History of Our Foundation
1912 July Founding of Nagoya Training School of Electricity announced (Founder: Takasaburo Goto).
September Classes start at Nagoya Training School of Electricity.
December Establishment of Nagoya Electricity School approved.
1920 January Nagoya Training School of Electricity renamed Nagoya Electricity School.
1930 April Start of club activities (table tennis).
1931 April Establishment of various clubs including kendo, baseball, debate and music (harmonica band).
1933 May Purchase of 2, 366 sq m of land at 1-18 Wakamizu Cho, Chikusa Ku, Nagoya Cit; an exercise grounds with resting place, storage shed, sumo practice yard are created. Establishment of lawn tennis club.
1937 January Table tennis club wins All Japan Middle School Table Tennis Championships (Togo Flag moves from Aomori to Chukyo district).
1947 April Foundation of Nagoya Junior High School of Electricity.
1948 October Nagoya Junior High School of Electricity renamed Meiden Junior High School.
1949 February Establishment of Goto Educational Foundation.
April Foundation of Nagoya High School of Electricity.
December Closure of Nagoya Electricity School.
1950 April Establishment of extension curriculum and Electricity department.
1951 March Goto Educational Foundation renamed as Nagoya Electrical Educational Foundation.
1952 June Approval of school following Electric Project Licensed Engineer Qualification Test Standards.
1954 April Establishment of Nagoya Junior College of Electrical Engineering offering evening courses (2-year Electrical Engineering course).
1955 April Establishment of day-time Electrical Engineering Course (2-year course).
1956 April Information Network Department added to night school curriculum.
1959 April Establishment of Nagoya Institute of Electricity; establishment of the Electrical Engineering Faculty.
Acceptance of students for Electrical Engineering course discontinued due to establishment of Nagoya Institute of Electricity.
Renamed as Nagoya Institute of Technology (Affiliated) Junior High School.
Mechanical Engineering department added to night school curriculum.
1960 April Renamed as Nagoya Institute of Electricity High School.
Electronics and Communication department renamed Electronics department due changes in school rules.
School renamed as Aichi Institute of Technology.
Establishment of the Electronics Engineering and Applied Chemistry departments.
Renamed as Aichi Institute of Technology (Affiliated) Junior High School.
1962 March Students qualified in radio use exempt from National Exams.
Technical Engineering department, Electronics Engineering department: Students exempt from Class 1 radio technician preliminary test
April Regular curriculum added to night school classes.
  Establishment of the Mechanical Engineering and Industrial and Management Engineering departments.
June 50th Anniversary of Foundation festivities held.
August Nagoya Wind Instrument Band (members from Nagoya schools, of which 18 from AIT) travel to Los Angeles on a goodwill mission.
1963 April Commencement of evening school for the Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering departments
1964 December Relocation of the University to Yachigusa, Sanage-cho Nishikamo-Gun (currently Yachigusa, Toyota) is begun.
1965 April Establishment of the Civil Engineering department
July Renamed as Junior College of Aichi Institute of Technology
1966 April Establishment of the Master's course in Engineering; establishment of the major in Electrical Engineering, and Applied Chemistry
October Classes for first year of Electrical Engineering department start at Yachigusadai.
1968 April Establishment of the Architecture department.
  First year and second year Management Engineering and Civil Engineering departments relocated to Yachigusadai.
1969 May Applied Chemistry department relocated to Yachigusadai.
1971 January University President Koji Goto travels to China for talks with Chou En Lai in the first stages of Ping-Pong Diplomacy
1972 January Establishment of the Environment Engineering Research Institute
March Electrical and Electronics Engineering relocated to Yachigusadai.
Nobember 60th Anniversary of Foundation festivities held.
1973 February Establishment of the Master's course in Civil Engineering.
Establishment of the major course of studies in Industrial and Management Engineering.
Mechanical Engineering department relocated to Yachigusadai.
1974 March Relocation of university to Yachigusa is completed.
1975 March Night school discontinued.
1976 April Renamed as Nagoya High School of Electricity.
Establishment of the Architectural Engineering department.
Establishment of the Master's course for Mechanical Engineering, and Architecture.
1977 April Recruitment of Junior College students discontinued.
July Establishment of an exchange program with University of Mexico.
1978 August Discontinuation of Junior College.
1980 December Establishment of sister university status with Nanjing Institute of Technology (currently Southeast University, Nanjing, China)
1981 October Creation of the International Exchange Center
1982 November 70th Anniversary of Foundation festivities held.
1984 April Renamed as Aichi Institute of Technology Meiden High School
1987 July Establishment of an exchange program with the University of Nuevo Leon, Nuevo Leon, Mexico
1988 March Establishment of the Information Network Engineering department
1990 November Festivities for 10th Anniversary of sister university status with Southeast University, Nanjing, China held.
1991 November University Chairman Atsushi Goto given Honorary Chinese Citizenship from the Government of Huaiyin Province, China.
1992 April Establishment of Doctorate Courses in Electricity and Materials Engineering Course, Production and Construction Engineering Course
Master's Courses revised.
Five Master's Courses revised to create four Master's Courses in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Course, Materials Chemistry Course, Production System Engineering Course, and Construction System Engineering Course.
Management Engineering Course discontinued.
High School's regular curriculum revised to co-educational system; School uniform changed to blazer style.
AIT Communications and Electronics is established.
June Environment Engineering Research Institute merged with Research Institute for Industrial Technology.
November 80th Anniversary of Foundation festivities held.
Research Institute of Industrial Technology facilities completed.
1998 April Introduction of nine regular daytime and evening course departments.
Recruitment of second school division students discontinued.
2000 April Establishment of the Faculty of Management and Information Science (revision of the Industrial and Management Engineering Department)
November Festivities for 20th Anniversary of sister university status with Southeast University, Nanjing, China held.
2001 July North Wing completed. (Classrooms are equipped with modern communication equipment.)
2002 April Specialist courses revised to co-educational system. Information Science course added to specialist courses.
Revised to co-educational system; School uniform changed to blazer style.
10th Anniversary of Foundation.
July Establishment of academic exchange agreement with the University of Kentucky.
November 90th Anniversary of Foundation festivities held.
2003 November Establishment of academic exchange agreement with the Chiang Mai University, Thailand.
2004 April Two faculties and 10 department restructured to create two faculties and six departments with a total of 12 courses.
2005 April Establishment of Graduate School in Business Administration and Computer Sciences, and Master's and Doctorate courses in Business Administration and Computer Sciences.
Opening of the Motoyama campus in Nagoya (planned).
